In the beginning
A sixteen year old Scottish entrepreneur, James Smith, set sail for the American shores in search of new ideas and new horizons. He settled in Jackson, Mississippi and soon established a hardware business selling cooking ranges and stoves. The business flourished, but the hot, humid climate was having an effect on his wife's health so they made plans to return to their native Scotland.
