No. Most models can be switched on or off as required. However, because all ESSEs are controllable many owners choose to run them continuously on minimum setting. This way they use no more fuel than switching on and off as required, thanks to their superb insulating properties. Single burner models with a boiler will produce some hot water as a result of cooking (see table on page 20).

There are slight variations across the range but as a guide, assuming the cooker is on its lowest setting, maximum temperature can be reached in 20 minutes. The electric model will achieve this from cold in the same time and its ceramic hob will reach maximum temperature in just four seconds.

No. You can use an ESSE as you would any conventional cooker. However, because of its unique range qualities you will be able to take advantage of many aspects of range cooking that are simply not available with a conventional oven. Your new ESSE comes with specially developed ‘owners manual’ that focuses on specific aspects of the ESSE from cleaning and care to recipes and advice. There is also a really useful Christmas planner and recipe guide. Plus we’ve included some old ESSE recipes that date back to the early 1900s. It is ring bound A5 and is intended to be added to with new recipes from future mailings to existing owners. There will also be downloads from the website that can be printed and added to the manual.

No. Other than the pressure jet all models are virtually silent. Pressure jet ranges have a reputation for being noisy but this is not the case with an ESSE. Whilst the pressure jets can be heard they are extremely quiet in their operation.

No. ESSEs are pre-built and fully tested before they leave the factory, so they do not need to be assembled on site unlike some range cookers. Installation costs will vary depending on the model you choose. A central heating model will need to be plumbed into your system whereas a cooking only model will simply need a fuel supply and a suitable flue arrangement. The electric model needs only a power supply. Your ESSE dealer will be happy to arrange a site visit and advise on installation.

No. The excellent insulating and thermal properties of all ESSEs make them economical to run even when used continuously. Add to that greater controllability and flexibility and an ESSE becomes a very attractive proposition when considering running costs.

Self cleaning is a direct result of constant use which ESSEs, like all true range cookers, are best suited to. Any spills or splashes are simply carbonised when the oven is used at maximum temperature.

No. It is a true oven that operates at approximately two thirds of the temperature in the main oven which, on some models can be up to 200°C with the top oven running at its maximum 300°C. On electric models the bottom oven is totally independent and can be regulated to any desired temperature.

We recommend that you take advice from your plumber or ESSE dealer to select the right model for your heating needs, but as a guide you can calculate this assuming 160Btu/h equals 1 square foot of radiator surface.
